Collaborating with emotional intelligence

Content

How often do you want to stand up for yourself and then abandon it because you don’t want to harm the relationship? Do you avoid addressing issues out of concern for making the situation worse? To be able to communicate in challenging situations emotional intelligence is essential.
Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize emotions – both our own and those of others - and to deal with them in a way that creates strong trust-based relationships. In this course, you will learn:

  • about and train key aspects of emotional intelligence.
  • how to separate your own perspectives from those of others, be empathetic, and at the same time speak up for yourself.
  • how to communicate and be transparent in a way that softens existing tensions and strengthens the relationship.

Beyond a theoretical framework, the course embeds the knowledge of emotional intelligence with experiential learning: You will have the opportunity to practice with your own work-related and personal situations and you will learn approaches that empower you to engage in conversations to everyone’s benefit.

Course objectives

The aim of the course is to strengthen your emotional intelligence as a participant so that you feel confident to address delicate interpersonal situations. By doing so you create space for genuine listening and mutual responsiveness. The result is fruitful collaborations, win-win negotiations, and life-enriching relationships. The workshop lives by the overall principle, ‘Make allies, not enemies.’

After the course, you will understand how to use emotional intelligence skills for topics like:

  • Teamwork
  • Leadership
  • Negotiation
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Conflict resolution
  • Job interviews
  • Written communication
  • Resilience
