GRC Travel Grant Measures 2021

Measures 2021

Within the allocation period fall 2021 (deadline 15 November), Graduate Campus is offering the following 2 possibilities in addition to the regular call for proposals:

  • GRC Travel Grants can be applied retroactively for the period from July 2021 to December 2021.
  • Follow-up applications to previously awarded GRC Travel Grants can be submitted for additional funding.

With these two measures, Graduate Campus is reacting to the aggravated circumstances with regard to research travel that have arisen due to the current travel and work restrictions.

Retroactive grant applications

The recent and possibly renewed travel restrictions make long-term planning of research trips impossible. This measure is therefore intended to enable research trips to be planned in the short term.

The general conditions as well as the procedure are the same as for the regular GRC Travel Grants. Further information can be found here.

Furthermore, the following regulations apply to this one time measure:

  • The application window will open on 15 September 2021, the deadline is 15 November 2021. During this application window, applications for funding for the travel period from 1 July 2021 to 31 December 2021 can be submitted. The amounts of the contributions follow the usual rates as published on the GRC Travel Grants page.
  • The applications can be submitted using the existing application form. When describing your travel proposal, please note that the grant is being applied for retroactively and briefly describe the specific circumstances and reasons for doing so.
  • Instead of letters of invitation, confirmations of the visited research institutions can be uploaded.
  • In case of difficulties or ambiguities regarding the documents to be uploaded or requirements to be met, please contact the office by email.

Follow-up applications

Follow-up applications can be submitted in addition to GRC Travel Grants that have already been awarded. This measure is a reaction to the fact that essential or already started research trips can only be carried out with difficulties and due to the current situation and to local regulations are associated with additional financial costs.

The amounts applicable additionally through follow-up applications are limited to the same amount of funding already mentioned.

The procedure for submitting follow-up applications is as follows:

  • The same existing form of the GRC Travel Grants is also provided for follow-up applications. Fill out the form in the same way as for the initial application: Personal, research, and travel proposal details, as well as the uploaded documents, should be identical.
  • However, use the text fields to describe the planned research trip instead to describe the specific situation and circumstances that have led to significant additional costs.
  • The input window will open on 15 September 2021, the deadline is 15 November 2021. Follow-up applications to already awarded grants for the travel period from 1 July 2021 to 31 December 2021 can be submitted exceptionally within this input window.
  • In case of difficulties or ambiguities regarding the documents to be uploaded or requirements to be met, please contact the office by email.

Background

The two measures are being implemented in the context of the generally more difficult mobility of junior researchers in connection with the global corona pandemic. They were developed on the basis of direct discussions with affected researchers and the exchange with coordinators and representatives, and in coordination with other existing offers to promote research trips.

Further possibilities for financial support of research trips exist, for example, through the VAUZ Conference Fund or the funds for research travels of the Graduate School of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
