Citizen Science - Exhibition on Participatory Research
Measuring water levels, finding galaxies and identifying plants: these are some of the activities carried out by volunteers and scientists together. A total of 19 Citizen Science projects run by UZH and ETHZ are the subject of this poster exhibition on participatory research.
In a representative survey in Switzerland, 36% of the population stated they would like to work on a research project. For many Citizen Scientists, it is highly motivating to be able to make a real contribution to current research and gain in-depth knowledge at the same time. Citizen Science projects are often designed to be fun and can be easily combined with free-time activities like hiking.
For science and academia, the inclusion of citizens in research offers great potential, particularly also when set against the background of digitization. Ways of collecting and processing data have changed radically in recent years with the result that, with mobile Internet and powerful smartphones, it is now possible to gather and deliver relevant research data almost anywhere.
The exhibition presents projects from varying disciplines, all of which draw on methods that involve citizens in their research. Five key areas can be identified: language, cosmos, nature and landscape, mankind and health, history and digitization.
The exhibition is organized by the Graduate Campus of the University of Zurich and has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Stiftung Mercator Schweiz.
4:30-5:30 p.m.: Short presentation of all projects by scientists (in english).
Followed by a small aperitif.
Everyone is welcome!
