Supervision training for postdocs

As postdoc you are taking over more responsibility. In this workshop we will focus on supervisor skills necessary in the supervisor role. We will ask questions of expectations on both sides as supervisor and as PhD candidate. Further we will reflect on good agreements for the supervision process.

In this course, participants:

  • reflect on their own experience during their PhD and collect conclusions for the new role as supervisor
  • become aware of the different skills as supervisor
  • get conscious about possible problems during a supervision
  • know the importance of clear defined agreements
  • develop an action plan for their own forthcoming supervision processes
  • know principles of supervision in comparison with coaching/consulting like question types, one’s own questioning attitude
  • practice how a meeting with a PhD candidate could be designed
  • consider ways to practice cross-cultural sensitivity
  • understand the role that a supervisor should take to promote research integrity
  • develop a guideline for supervision meetings.
