Open Access: Funding and requirements

Content The course familiarizes students with the Open Access and Open Data requirements and policies of important funding bodies (e.g. SNSF, EU, private partners) and the UZH. They learn how to comply with these requirements in their choice of publication venue and choice of Open Access route, how to verify copyright compliance and embargo periods, and how to finance potential article/book processing charges when publishing gold or hybrid Open Access. The consequences of such policies on early-career researchers will also be discussed.
Course objectives After this course, participants are able to:
… determine and apply the requirements of various funding bodies and national agencies to their own research output (SNSF, Societies, UZH Policy, Horizon Europe, private partners)
… identify possible financial support for Open Access publications,
… critically evaluate the consequences of said requirements and policies (e.g. impact on academic careers, costs, predatory journals)
