Can I apply for more than one grant in the same period?
You can only apply for one GRC Short Grant per semester. It is not possible to apply for a GRC Career Grant with the same project in the same period. An application for a GRC Travel Grant can be submitted at the same time.
Who can be a co-applicant?
Co-applicants must be doctoral researchers or postdocs at UZH. However, it is not a mandatory requirement to have co-applicants, you can also apply alone.
What status at UZH makes you eligible to apply?
You can submit an application if you are enrolled or employed at UZH, a combination is also possible. This also applies to affiliated institutes. Associated researchers without a UZH Card can only apply if they can present a cost center UZH of an institute or chair of UZH that is willing to manage the project.
Can I apply for a salary?
Yes, you can apply for a salary for your own scientific work as well as personnel costs for example early career researchers, student employees, experts, test subjects.
Can I apply for travel expenses?
Generally not – GRC Travel Grants are made available to cover travel expenses. Exceptions are possible in justified cases.
Can former peer mentoring groups apply for GRC Short Grants?
It is possible to apply for funding for events such as workshops and writing retreats. The application should be submitted by advanced doctoral researchers and postdocs. However, the activities may also be aimed at doctoral researchers who are at the beginning of their doctoral studies. However, a project cannot be submitted for several times in succession.
What should the global budget include?
The global budget must clearly contextualise the funds requested from the GRC and ensure transparency regarding all sources of funding and cash flows. In particular, a budget document and/or supplementary text should show how funds and resources are allocated to the (sub)activities and explain why the activity cannot be funded elsewhere or to what extent other stakeholders (chair, research group, institute, faculty, internal and external UZH collaborations) are contributing financially or materially to the project costs. The guidelines on budget planning contain further details on what to include in the globald budget. Please upload this overall budget with your application on the GRC-Tool in the section "Uploads".
Can I re-enter a project after an unsuccessful application?
Yes, this is possible. In the case of repeated submissions without any apparent revision, the coordination office reserves the right not to proceed to the formal review.
Can the schedule be changed after submission?
It may be possible to postpone the activity. All relevant changes to the project timeline must be communicated to GRC immediately and are subject to approval.
Does a GRC Grant affect my salary at UZH?
No, the two payments are independent of each other.
Are experts allowed to travel by plane?
For all trips less than 10 hours of travel, travel by train is mandatory according to the guidelines on environmental sustainability. This requirement is binding.
How does the payment of the grant work?
The payments of the project can either be managed trough a cost center of the professor or chair holder supporting the application or an institute. Alternatively, a G-project (PSP-element) has to be set up.
The payments are made through the cost center/G-project. Once the project has been completed and the reporting has been submitted and approved, the funds are transferred from the GRC to the cost center/G-project. More detailed information can be found in the funds transfer information sheet that is attached to the decision letter.
